What is an EASY Card? | Back to top
In an effort to create seamless, regional travel in South Florida, Tri-Rail has partnered with Miami-Dade Transit (MDT) to use the EASY Card as the preferred way to pay your transit fare. Your EASY Card is good for use on both Tri-Rail and MDT, including Metrorail and Metrobus. Think of your EASY Card as a debit card you can use to pay your transit fare.

  • At Ticket Vending Machines located at all Tri-Rail stations
  • At any of the five Tri-Rail Ticket Kiosks located at the West Palm Beach, Pompano Beach, Ft. Lauderdale Airport, Metrorail Transfer and Hialeah Market Tri-Rail stations
  • By calling the EASY Card Financial Center (786) 469-5151

Can I purchase an SFRTA/Tri-Rail EASY Card online? | Back to top
No. At this time, you may only purchase SFRTA/Tri-Rail EASY Cards on Tri-Rail TVMs and at Ticket Kiosks.

There are some EASY Card options available online at https://transitstore.miamidade.gov/extern/registereasycard, including card registration and loading cash value to your card. However, Tri-Rail fare products are currently not available for purchase online.

How can I use my SFRTA/Tri-Rail EASY Card to transfer to Miami-Dade Transit (MDT)? | Back to top
In order to use your SFRTA/Tri-Rail EASY Card on MDT, you must have sufficient cash value (or a minimum of $2) loaded on your card to cover the MDT fare, or purchase a Regional Monthly Pass for unlimited travel on both Tri-Rail and MDT systems.

How can I use my SFRTA/Tri-Rail EASY Card to transfer to Broward County Transit (BCT) or Palm Tran? | Back to top
EASY Cards are not accepted on BCT or Palm Tran. EASY Card-holders must obtain a Transfer-to-Bus Ticket from a Tri-Rail Ticket Vending Machine (TVM) to receive a transfer discount on BCT or Palm Tran.

What is the process to obtain a Transfer-to-Bus Ticket? | Back to top
In order to be able to obtain a Transfer-to-Bus Ticket, you must TAP ON and TAP OFF correctly after using Tri-Rail. Then, at a TVM, choose the “Reload/Transfer to Bus” selection, then “Transfer from Bus/Rail” to be prompted to the Transfer-to-Bus Ticket option.

Can I automatically load value on my SFRTA/Tri-Rail EASY Card? | Back to top
Yes. You can add cash value to your EASY Card with the autoload feature by calling the EASY Card Financial Center at (786) 469-5151, or visiting https://transitstore.miamidade.gov/extern/registereasycard. Other Tri-Rail fare products are not available for autoload at this time.

Will I be able to register my EASY Card in case it is lost or stolen? | Back to top
Yes. One of the advantages of the EASY Card is balance protection. Once you have your card, you can contact 1-800-TRI-RAIL (874-7245) to register your card.

Which products can I load onto my SFRTA/Tri-Rail EASY Card? | Back to top
All Tri-Rail products are available for purchase on the SFRTA/Tri-Rail EASY Card. In addition, Regional Monthly Passes are also available, for unlimited access to both Tri-Rail and Miami-Dade Transit.

No. You may only load Tri-Rail fare products and cash value on Tri-Rail TVMs.

Can I load Miami-Dade Transit (MDT) products onto an SFRTA/Tri-Rail EASY Card? | Back to top
You may only load MDT fare products onto Full Fare and Student Discount SFRTA/Tri-Rail EASY Cards. This must be done at an MDT Ticket Vending Machine or Ticket Office.

Can I load Tri-Rail fare product onto a Miami-Dade Transit (MDT) EASY Card? | Back to top
You may only load Tri-Rail fare products onto Full Fare and Student Discount MDT EASY Cards. This must be done at a Tri-Rail Ticket Vending Machine or Ticket Kiosk.

If I only have cash value on my EASY Card, how will the system know how much to charge me for my trip? | Back to top
When you tap on before boarding the train, your originating station will be identified. Upon tapping off when you exit the train, your destination station will be identified. The number of zones traveled, and the correct fare, will automatically be calculated.
That is why it’s important to tap on and tap off.

What will happen if I forget to tap off at my destination station and I have used cash to travel? | Back to top
Passengers who do not tap off at their destination station may be charged a 6-zone flat fee. In addition, they will not receive transfer discounts when transferring to other transit systems.

Can I get a refund if I tap on and then decide not to take the train? | Back to top
No. Tickets and passes are non-refundable.

Why am I not able to purchase a Discounted Fare (Children, Employer Discount Program, Persons with Disabilities, Seniors and Students) EASY Card at the Ticket Vending Machines?
Passengers who are eligible to travel at a discount must pre-qualify by submitting a government-issued photo ID with proper eligibility forms to a Tri-Rail Ticket Kiosk equipped with a photo station. For more information on eligibility requirements and photo stations, call 1-800-TRI-RAIL (874-7245).

Yes.

Am I able to use the SFRTA/Tri-Rail EASY Card on the 95 Express? | Back to top
Yes. Passengers will be able to use their EASY Cards on the Miami-Dade Transit 95 Express bus, provided their card is loaded with cash value or a Regional Monthly Pass. However, EASY Cards are not accepted as fare on Broward County Transit’s 95 Express Service.

Should I use my stored value to travel round trip? | Back to top
Passengers using stored value to travel round trip will be charged the cost of two (2) one-way trips. Passengers wishing to take advantage of the reduced fare for roundtrip travel are encouraged to purchase a Round-Trip Pass/Ticket.

Are Monthly passes good for a month from time of purchase? | Back to top
Monthly passes are good for unlimited use during a calendar month, and not from the time of purchase. Passengers should calculate if a 12-Trip may be more beneficial for the remainder of the current month instead of purchasing a Monthly Pass.

Can I purchase a Monthly Pass at any time during the month? | Back to top
Monthly passes are available for purchase from the 25th of the previous calendar month until the 20th of the current month. (i.e.: June Monthly Pass can be purchased from 25th of May until 20th of June.)

If I purchase a One-Way or Round-Trip Pass and choose not to use it, can I save it for a different day? | Back to top
No. One-Way and Round-Trip passes are good for use on date-of-purchase only, whether purchased with an EASY Card or as a paper ticket.
