EDP Benefits

BENEFITS

As soon as your company enrolls, you and your employees can quickly take advantage of a number of valuable benefits. Plus, the SFRTA/Tri-Rail will provide you with everything needed to promote public transportation to your employees. Once the initial EDP Application and Agreement is completed, there is little for you to do. All that we require is that you assign an EDP contact person to promote and administer the program within your organization.

THE SFRTA/TRI-RAIL EDP ADVANTAGE:

  • Enhances employee recruitment and retention efforts
  • Increases productivity
  • Provides an additional employee benefit with substantial savings
  • Reduces parking demand at company location
  • Provides greater opportunity for access to transportation alternatives
  • Reduces the number of vehicles on our highways
  • Improves the environment
  • Improves company’s public reputation/image
  • Expands new job markets within the tri-county area
  • Provides a transit commuter benefit for corporations and employees

TRANSIT COMMUTER BENEFITS:

With federal-tax benefits, it really does pay to ride transit! Employers offering transit commuter benefits can take advantage of federal-tax benefits as outlined by the Transportation Equity Act for the 21st Century, also known as TEA-21.

Under Internal Revenue Code Section 132, the transit commuter benefit allows employers to give their employees up to $105 per month to cover public transportation costs as a tax-free benefit. Alternatively, employers can allow employees to pay for the commuter benefit with payroll deductions.
Or
An employer can pay for the cost of the transit commuter benefit for their employees. The employer’s cost of providing transit benefits can be deducted as a normal business expense.
Or
Employers can share the cost of commuting with their employees by paying for part of the transit commuter benefit and allowing employees to pay for the remainder with pre-tax dollars.

For more information about transit commuter benefits, please contact the EDP Coordinator at 954-788-7838 or via e-mail at edp@sfrta.fl.gov.
